Week #3: Things 5, 6, and 7

I'm a bit behind but trying to keep up with this! I enjoyed looking at Flickr today and many of the photos were absolutely awesome. A true picture-nut over the years I have been the family photographer and could appreciate some of the terrific views and shots captured and posted- a cool way to share the beauty of a moment in time. The tags were a great way to find topics of interest quickly. I especially liked the color grouping that was done in the mashups.(P.S.-I have been trying to "go back" and add the links to add to the tracking sheet but it has been difficult to get back to the sites so long AFTER the fact!! I DID create a link!!)

Since beginning these 23 Things, I've been trying to pay closer attention to new technology advances in general and I am more aware and even able to tell my kids a thing or two! A cool technological advance that I saw recently was in the area of new ideas for the home-using an ipod or mp3 player that can easily adapt to an entire house sound system so you could play all YOUR favorite songs throughout your house. That would be great as in my house I even have trouble picking up a radio station I enjoy from one room to the next!! I was a bit skeptical about another new invention-it was for on the refrigerator and it was a DVD player and screen for on the fridge door. I don't agree with being bombarded all the time but I am sure some people would enjoy this. I think we need to enjoy people contact and conversation at meals, no TV please! Another player for on the refrigerator would display a slideshow of your favorite photos-what would I do with all the magnets? Needless to say, there are some quirky, elaborate, and fun new gadgets out there for everyone!
I'm trying to be open-minded about all this change and go along with what works for me!!

Thing 1-Getting Started

Being no stranger to lifelong learning, I found the habits discussed in week #1 to be familiar to me. I am hopeful this 23 Things will help me have more confidence in myself with the use of technology. It seems I employ the computer as a tool but don't always utilize it fully enough so that technology is truly used to my advantage! Number #6 is probably my greatest challenge because I have so many interests that actively consume my time. I'm hopeful I'll learn some new tricks and become more tech savy!
The habit that is easiest for me is accepting responsibility for my own learning. Having gone to college as a non-traditional student, I fully appreciate the value of the investment in learning for my future. I want to keep up better but find time issues a problem. I love to learn and hope 23 Things will help broaden my horizons!

I Have a Blog!

Wow! I DID IT!!! You all have no idea the stress that is caused by trying to do this uninterrupted!! The library gods are smiling on me tonight!! As my blog name infers, technology can cause fear and my children have been terrific at dragging me along with them into this century, however, they have gone off to college and their lives and poor Mom is left without instructors (not that they are patient enough anymore!) So I am determined to learn some new things in spite of myself!!
